Around 14% of UK children are estimated to be obese.
A “staggering” one in four teenagers are clinically obese by the age of 15.
The study of more than 370,000 children shows that 25 per cent of girls and 24 per cent of boys between the ages of 10 and 15 are now obese.
Whilst these stats are staggering, there is more to that. Think health implications later in life, the knock in confidence, the mental health issues in teenagers, the lack of education and importance on fitness and health.
50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24. 10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem3, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.
